ABOUT THE PROJECT

Your journey into Dante's world is about to begin!

This year marks the 700th anniversary since the death of the great Italian poet Dante Alighieri. In honour of this event, the sculpture ‘Mask of Dante’ by Vasily Klyukin begins its tour around Europe, and the first location is the city of Zug. Now you have the opportunity to travel into Inferno and reflect on the fate of humanity. Dante and his 'Divine Comedy will guide you through.

The sculpture ‘Mask of Dante’ is part of the world-famous exhibition ‘IN DANTE VERITAS’, which moved to Lucerne at the end of the 58th Venice Art Biennale 2019, and was located at the best viewpoint in the city at the Chateau Gütsch, thus receiving the name Art|Panorama INFERNO. The exhibition was first presented to the general public in 2018 at the State Russian Museum of St. Petersburg. Since that time, it has been visited by more than 500 thousand people, and one of the reasons for such popularity was the audio guide written by Vasily Klyukin in the poetic manner of Dante himself.

Klyukin's exhibition is a rethinking of Dante Alighieri's epic poem ‘The Divine Comedy’. Balancing on the brink of figurativeness and abstraction, the collection is a sculptural narrative that recreates the nine circles of hell described in ‘The Divine Comedy’.

As renowned art critic Donald Kuspit highlights, ‘Klyukin’s ‘IN DANTE VERITAS’ is an avant-garde entertainment that addresses a pressing public concern: is the possible — inevitable? — extinction of the human race’.
